Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a naturally occurring, fat-soluble compound found in every cell of the body. It plays a role in the electron transport chain within mitochondria, where cellular energy (ATP) is produced. CoQ10 is also a lipid-soluble antioxidant. The body produces CoQ10 naturally, though production gradually decreases with age.

Ubiquinone vs Ubiquinol

Ubiquinol (the reduced form) is often marketed as superior, but the evidence is mixed. The body converts between ubiquinone and ubiquinol as needed — they exist as a redox pair. Most large clinical trials have used the ubiquinone form.
